With regard to the “VP” within an oval to the underside of your barrel, I have found it on all models, commencing Along with the Product 1873 (I have not looked for it to the Product 1866, but my wager is it also was marked Along with the “VP”). Winchester (within their catalogs) describes the process to the “VP” proof mark as follows:
